SPG Smash Burger
Ingredients
500g ground beef (80/20 ratio is best for juicy burgers)
Braai Heroes SPG Rub
2 hamburger buns
American Cheese
Onion sliced nice and thin.
Duck Fat or Beef Tallow
Butter
Burger Sauce: Mayonnaise, Yellow Mustard, Tomato Sauce (Ketchup)
Pickled Gherkins sliced.
Instructions
Preheat
Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
Burgers Â
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal-sized ball portions.
Toast The Buns
Add butter to the cast iron skillet or griddle and place the buns cut side down on the flat top.
Keep an eye on these buns and remove them when they are nice and toasty but not burned.
Griddle The Burgers
Place the duck fat on the griddle or in the skillet.
Place the burger balls on top of the duck fat with good space between them and use a flat spatula to smash the burgers flat.
Season well with Braai Heroes SPG Rub
Topped with sliced onions and griddle for 3-4 minutes or till a good crust forms.
Flip with spatula patties over with onion on the bottom. Season again with Braai Heroes SPG Rub.
Place American Cheese on each Burger Patty and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
ASSEMBLE THE BURGERSÂ
Place a dollop of burger sauce on the bottom bun, then top with two cheesy smashed caramelized onion burger patties top with some more burger sauce and the sliced Pickled Gherkins. Finish off with a buttery top bun. Enjoy!
